Disa

Greetings to all!

I have been a Pagan for most of my life; I just did not know what to call it as I grew up.

I was born in the mid-west, here in
Kansas in fact. My Paternal grandparents owned a small 40+ acre farm outside of Topeka , and I remember spending time out there. Not only did they have all that land for me to play on, but also they were also outstanding horticulturalists. Their yard was full of color, throughout most of the year. I remember watching the wildlife from their windows, and hiding in a HUGE lilac bush that they had planted years before. Grandma was Lutheran.

My Maternal grandmother lived in town, and she also had a yard that defied description. She worked a full time job during the early morning to early afternoon, and would come home and start in on her laundry service. She specialized in cleaning/repairing Lace, I mean like very fine, expensive Irish, Spanish lace. She was Methodist.

My Father was in the Air Force, we moved quite often, usually every 1.5-2 years. He was tall, an officer and a pilot. It was great! I got to go inside of nearly every model of Air force craft by the time I was 10!! Dad was, well I am not sure even today, but definitely a Christian path.

My Mother was a gentle woman, and would have preferred to stay home with her family, but helped my father run 4 Pizza restaurants. She loved to cook and when my father and she divorced (in the mid-60's this was NOT something that one did in the mid-west) she worked a fulltime job and baked/decorated cakes for extra income.

As a small child, I can remember taking bits of plants and 'making' magic with them. But I was not raised to that path. Instead, I was baptized 3 different times, once as Methodist, once as Christian, and one time which I do not remember the Faith name of. By the time I was 10 years old, I had read the bible at least 3 times, both Testaments. I had also found that the hypocrisy that I found prevalent in Christianity was not for me.

By the time I was a teen, I did not practice any belief system, I was an atheist. I was fascinated by Arcane/Occult knowledge, but finding any at the public library was not easy. In fact, the closest I got to books on magic, were SciFi/Fantasy books.

In my 20's, I was an agnostic, but still had not found a path of my own. I had found many books on paranormal topics and had found astrology. It was great! But still no path of faith called to me.

In my 30's, that was when I first found magic! Scott Cunningham was one of the greatest things to happen to me! I dived into magic with an unbounded energy, until things came to a point where I needed to withdraw from actively practicing magic.

In my 40's, I once again came to a point where I was ready to open my life to magic again. Em prodded me into going to one Pagan meetup, I think in April or May of last year. I have been attending at least 1 pagan meetup a month.

I have a large library, am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism for close to 20 years. I like plants, rocks, animals, and most people. I have a wide range of skills in various arts and sciences and enjoy reading. I am a computer geek, and often visit 100s of websites a day. I think this time we live in is the greatest age so far, and I am excited to be alive and here with all of you!
